Venus Probe Launch Set to Study Venus Atmosphere
Pioneer Venus 2 is scheduled to lift from Cape Canaveral on August 7 carrying four instrumented probes designed to dive into Venus atmosphere at high speed. The mission follows Pioneer Venus 1 launched May 20 and aims to radio back atmospheric data before the lander phase. A diamond window infrared sensor will measure radiation and cloud layers while probes deploy about 8 million miles from Venus.

Police blotter notes multiple window break-ins and thefts in town
Police believe three boys were involved in two early morning window damage incidents near Washington Street. Rose Mary Winthrown reported a punched rear window screen and panes, a six foot stake suspected. A neighbor saw three boys flee toward Washington Street. A second call found a broken bathroom window with two bricks outside. Michael Kessler reported a smashed rear window on his station wagon with a railroad stake, not confirmed linked. Additional damage involved six holes in a front window of Anthony Brutsche’s house from a BB gun. Charles Halladay reported theft of a CB radio from his pickup at Nite Life on Milan Avenue after about ten minutes. A local youth said bikes were taken from Bouscau Apartments while visiting, and Timothy Guenther reported the theft of two white and black Columbia 10-speed bikes, with his brother Eric Ringlein’s bike also missing.
