In Huron County Court hearings for Irvin W. Schaffer and James Sayre were continued to next Monday amid a continuation mixup. Both face charges for shooting two bucks on the Richard Deppen farm in Greenfield Township on June 19, and Schaffer also for a December 24 deer incident.

State Senator Robert J. Corts urges Ohio EPA Director Ira L. Whitman to halt Leon Riley's digester operation and move the hearing to an earlier date. He cites resident complaints of offensive emissions and notes staff changes at the Bowling Green office. The letter, dated July 20, requests immediate action and cites a November hearing as inconvenient for area residents.
Former Senator Wayne Morse died at 73 in Eugene Oregon after his family refused kidney dialysis that might have extended his life. Morse was ill with a urinary tract infection that progressed to kidney failure. he had campaigned for his old Senate seat and will be buried in Eugene on Thursday.
Fifteen Kent State University students on an archaeological dig in Cyprus were evacuated to the United Kingdom after Turkish invasion and Cypriot political upheaval. Led by James Carpenter, they began July 1 and were to return August 24. families had waited anxiously as news arrived of safe departure and rescue by U S helicopter carrier USS Coronado arriving in Beirut with Americans and others aboard.
