Northern California cannery workers walkout began Tuesday raising fears of heavy losses for farmers and shoppers. Westinghouse workers return from a 20 year nationwide dispute as West Virginia coal mines face wildcat walkouts though.
Three unions representing 47 000 electrical workers accepted new three year wage contracts from Westinghouse Electric Corp ending the first nationwide strike against the firm in 20 years. The company began recalling workers Tuesday night and expected all to return by Thursday.
The Northern Ohio Sugar Co plans a 3.8 million expansion in Fremont to boost raw cane sugar processing to about 165 million pounds yearly and expects completion by April 1978. In Washington the CPI rose 0.5 percent in June, the second highest monthly gain of the year, leaving annual inflation around 6 percent as economists forecast easing later.

Norwalk begins a petition drive to place a 1 percent income tax on the ballot. Mayor Wayne Goodsite and Council members endorse circulating petitions at City Hall and with local employers to gather signatures, aiming for 352 valid names from 1,000 registered voters.
An 18 year old Norwalk plant worker Sharri Frisch suffered a crushed hand and possible amputation when a Norwalk ambulance tire failed en route to St Joseph Hospital Lorain. She was transferred to a television repair van driven by a man who took her to the hospital.
In Dublin a land mine explosion killed British Ambassador Christopher Ewart-Biggs and a 27 year old woman Judith Cook. Brian Cubbon and the ambassador's chauffeur were wounded. Police saw two riflemen fleeing toward a suspected getaway car after the blast near the ambassador's residence.

A mistrial was declared after a juror spoke to a defendant during lunch in the two consolidated lawsuits over July 1972 traffic accidents. Mrs. Monnie F. Ousley seeks 165000 in each case from Hershall D. Via and Suzanne Van Vlerah. A new trial will be scheduled unless a settlement is reached.
