Stanton Loans $106,000 to Senate Campaign Committee

Rep. James V. Stanton of Ohio loaned $106,000 to the committee that raised over $415,000 in an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic U. S. Senate nomination. The Stanton for Senate Committee disclosed eight loans from Stanton, who is serving his third term in Congress.

Fraige Award Cut After Contributory Negligence Ruling

In San Francisco UPI reports Richard Fraige initially won $130,493.21 from Armstrong Cork for faulty heating elements. The jury foreman then ruled Fraige's company contributed to the damage and must forfeit 99 percent, leaving Fraige with $1,304.93.

Reagan Pursues Uncommitted Delegates in New Jersey

Jury clears Willard man in drowning case

A Grand Jury declined to indict boat owner Francis Pflieger after finding the Willard drowning victim Thomas Shepherd had assumed risks. Prosecutor Hauser said evidence showed the 16 year old could not swim. The panel returned no bill after considering 16 cases, with eight indictments kept secret and several others unrelated to the Willard incident.

Carter says Mondale was his fourth VP choice then won selection

Ford Gives Carter Call After Nomination Win

Norwalk Council Eyes Special Meeting On Tax Increase

Ohio Pike Chief Dies

Ohio Turnpike Commission Chairman James Shocknessy 69 died at University Hospital after surgery. Appointed in 1949, he supervised the toll road from Youngstown to Cleveland since its 1954 opening, and Gov. Rhodes urged renaming the Turnpike in his honor. Shocknessy was a noted Catholic layman honored by three Popes and active in Democratic politics as elector and delegate.

Norwalk Sees 97 Degree Heat Peak

Temperatures in Norwalk reached 97 degrees on Wednesday the year's high. Forecasters expect near 95 today with a drop to the upper 70s or low 80s by Friday. The prior 1976 record high was 95 degrees set last Sunday.
