Norwalk native Edwin T. O Donnell was promoted to brigadier general joining at least four other Huron County sons to achieve general ranks. Among earlier generals from the area are Major General Harry L Twaddle, Brigadier General E R Kellogg, Civil War general Franklin Sawyer, and Civil War general John Beatty, with Sandusky later in Erie County.
