Barber finds icepick blade in prisoner’s head

Ernest Wells, serving time for fighting at a penal farm, had an inch-long icepick blade removed from his head after a barber noted he suffered headaches. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Route 20 Surfacing Under Way

The Ohio Department of Highways began resurfacing two sections of U.S. 20 in Huron County. The Monroeville area project on U.S. 20 and State Route 547 costs 105 809 with completion in July. A Wake man segment on U.S. 20 and State Route 60 costs 44 806 with completion by July 15. Traffic remains open with flagmen directing vehicles.

Woman and Children Injured In Berlin Heights Crash

Lucille Castel 38 of Berlin Heights drove east on Ohio 113 two miles west of Ohio 60 at 5 30 p m Thursday, lost control on a rain soaked road and slid into a ditch. She and two children were treated and released at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital. The other two were not treated. The driver was cited for speed excessive for conditions.

Burglars Take $125 From Willard American Legion Club

Burglars broke into the Willard American Legion Club early Thursday morning and stole $78 from the office and $125 from vending machines pool table and juke box. Eighteen records were taken from the juke box. Vern Lutz discovered the break-in at 9 30 a m.

Reichert land appropriation case pending verdict for Norwalk bypass

A jury may issue a verdict this afternoon in the Reichert land appropriation case over bypass right of way. The suit seeks a fair settlement for land taken from the Charles Reichert family and damages to remaining acres on Route 260 east of Norwalk. The case began Wednesday in Hurt on County Common Pleas Court.

Andy Inman 45 of Greenwich pleaded innocent this morning in Juvenile Court to charges of contributing to the dependency and neglect of his children. Bond set at 2000 dollars cash or 4000 dollars property.

Needham resigns as Huron Red Cross executive secretary

Christine Needham has resigned from the post effective by Sept 1 at latest, with board to seek a replacement. The Monroeville resident began her second term Oct 1, 1964 after a prior 11 years in the job. She plans a long vacation.
