Dozens of communities report high water from the Vermilion river causing evacuations and power outages. Water plants flooded and trunks of reservoirs damaged while hospital and stores suffer losses. emergency crews distribute supplies and restore pumps, roads, and electricity as crews repair bridges and assess damages.
A Fourth of July storm front spawned killer tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in Northern Ohio. Death toll rises to 33 with 16 known dead and thousands homeless. Coast Guard helicopters airlift 52 people from rooftops and flooded homes in Vermilion, including a house where water rose to eaves.
Three members of the Sickinger family were injured in a Milan house explosion likely linked to a gas water heater in the basement. Leonard, Rose, and Stephanie Sickinger were hospitalized with varying injuries, Stephanie in critical condition with burns over 50 percent of her body.
July Fourth in Norwalk brought heat and a sudden storm. Parade crowds, barbecues, and lawn parties were disrupted as a funnel cloud reportedly touched down between Milan and Norwalk. Power outages and downed trees followed, injuring two boys and delaying celebrations.
