Rhodes signs five bills to clear titles on Ohio lakes

Gov James A Rhodes signed five bills granting clear title to 64 property owners on Buckeye Lake Portage Lakes and Grand Lake St Marys effective immediately. The state relinquishes claims to lakefront land and owners agree not to alter shorelines by excavation or fill.

Cleveland mob figure killed by ally in 1977 murder

Joseph Bonarrigo, 28, called an underworld muscleman by police, was sentenced to 15 years to life for the murder of Henry Grecco, a Cleveland mob figure. Judge Kilcoyne set bond at 25000 as appeal proceeds. Bonarrigo and Grecco, once allies, had a falling out over a plot to bomb a businessman, with Grecco informing the target. He shot Grecco, 42, on May 29, 1977, in his girlfriend's car on Cleveland's Northeast Side.

Rhodes aides to meet with 17 Ohio counties in Cleveland

Gov James A Rhodes administration will gather in Cleveland Friday with development officials from 17 northeastern Ohio counties to gauge future prospects for attracting business and industry. Participants include reps from Cuyahoga Summit Mahoning Stark Trumbull Lorain Richland Lake Ashtabula Medina Huron Erie Portage Wayne Ashland Columbiana and Geauga counties.

Brown to sign leaner budget amid Prop 13 restraints

California Governor Edmund G Brown Jr pledged to sign a $15.1 billion budget after a nine hour lobbying push. The plan tightens Medi Cal abortion access for the poor and grants state workers a 2.5 percent raise. Passed by the Senate 27 to 10, six days overdue, it heads to Brown who said the final version would be leaner than the bill received.

White House revises 1978 inflation forecast upward

The administration cut its forecast for economic growth and raised the expected inflation to 7 percent for 1978. Officials cited larger food price increases and a weaker dollar abroad as primary drivers of higher domestic price levels and import costs.

Weather and obituaries note clear night and two deaths

Weather calls for a clear night with a low in the low to mid ranges and a warm humid Friday with near zero percent precipitation tonight and about 10 percent Friday. Winds will be light and variable. Deaths note Mr. Robert L. Lewis age 84 of North Fairfield and Mr. Henry A. Edwards age 88 of Norwalk. The shah of Iran remains the longest reigning ruler with Mohammed Reza Pahlavi having become shah on September 16, 1941.

Congressman Harrington Says Politicians Wives Are Artificial

UPI reports Rep. Michael Harrington says politicians wives often appear more ambitious and artificial than their husbands. He criticizes vicarious political involvement and cites public desire to see the real person warts and all. Harrington, 41, will not seek another term citing self doubt and commitment.

New Electric Motor Lets Hankins Ride Around Norwalk

Noah E. Hankins, a polio survivor who used to rely on a wheelchair, now navigates Norwalk on an electric motorized three wheeler installed by Arnie's Cycle and Lawnmower Shop. Post 2743 members arranged the upgrade. Hankins, 46, from Virginia, works previously for Goodwill in Lorain and now depends on Social Security. He charges the bike nightly at 27 West Seminary Street and travels downtown and to the IGA grocery.

Freight Trains Collide Head-On Near Lawrenceburg

Two freight trains collided head on and burst into flames south of Lawrenceburg Tennessee near the Alabama border. Rescue squads and fire units were on the scene around 9 35 a m. The extent of damages and injuries was not yet known. One train was owned by Louisville and Nashville Railroad.

Swope Burns Survivor Plans Miami Move and New Life

Anna Swope, burned in November accident, plans a fresh start with husband Michael by relocating to Miami with their children Andrea and Brian. She recovers from third degree burns, keeps a positive mindset, and Michael expands chiropractic work to Ecuador while establishing clinics. The family will split time between Miami and Ecuador as new practices form.
