Muhammad Ali was cited by the Ohio Turnpike Patrol for driving his 1968 Cadillac on the highway shoulder near Maumee Ohio. He posted a $15 bond at Maumee Police Department and continued to Chicago after attending the CORE convention in Columbus.
UPI reports Rev. Jesse L. Jackson of the SCLC urged Negro athletes to boycott the 1968 Mexico City Games. He called on athletes to carry torches through the South to protest poverty in America and delay entry until Mexican-Americans earn decent southwest wages.
Paris UPI reports President Charles de Gaulle outlined a strategy that may lead to naming his successor. Prime Minister Georges Pompidou is expected to resign with his cabinet on Wednesday, clearing the way for De Gaulle to form a new government after the Gaullist victory in last week's runoff elections.
Japanese voters go to polls Sunday in a upper house election that tests Prime Minister Eisaku Sato's pro Western policy. The outcome will signal whether the ruling Conservatives should maintain the Cold War era alliance with the United States despite rising anti American sentiment.
President Johnson flew to a Central American summit in San Salvador at 8:08 a.m. EDT. White House officials said the anti American demonstration Friday night would not alter Johnsons schedule.

City officials unveil the 1969 budget showing an 89 701 deficit against 2 230 855 expenditures and 2 141 154 revenue. The general fund may exhaust reserves, a municipal income tax is under study, and public inspection ends July 16 ahead of a July council hearing.
Wakeman Village Council may hold a heated session Monday over Mayor Paul Burns’s dismissal of Police Chief David Ortner. Burns says Ortner was not officially appointed, only on a six month probation, and Ortner’s resignation and access to department property are disputed. Mayor pursues auxiliary force and a full time patrolman.
Norwalk residents report white blotches on cars and a house after last Wednesday night. Service Director Morley Price notes only one official report, with the sheriff and police receiving inquiries about the marks. Officials plan to check spraying contractors as a possible cause. A separate incident reports three youths from Fostoria charged with petty larceny after taking watermelons.
Chief Justice Earl Warren praised President Johnson selection Abe Fortas as his successor and dismissed lame duck concerns. He called Fortas an excellent choice and predicted he would be a great chief justice while noting his own retirement politics avoidance. Warren cited court milestones including school desegregation one man one vote and right to counsel.
In Vietnam near Saigon on a Friday night automatic fire from ambush killed two teenage entertainers and wounded three others from Los Angeles group Bandi Perry and the Bubble Machine. The victims and a wounded U S Army sergeant were traveling to Vung Tau when the attack occurred about 18 miles east of Saigon on Highway 15.
A city cab driver, John L. Bradden, 31, was cited for failure to stop within a safe distance after his cab struck a car stopped on North Hester near Main Street. Grady Crager, 44, was driving the stopped car. his wife Myrtle Crager, 38, a passenger, complained of head pain.
