Boy Injured When Bike Strikes Pipe on Ontario Street
Duane W. Goostree, 8, sustained a left foot wound requiring nine stitches after his bicycle ran over a metal drainage pipe partially across a sidewalk at 12 Ontario Street in Norwalk. He was riding with brother Darrin, 6, when the incident occurred Monday morning, and the pipe was reportedly moved by workers when police arrived.

Cadet Program Funded By Federal Grant
The North Star Council of Governments in Milan has secured a federal grant to run a college cadet program across five counties including Huron. Full time students will be placed with police, courts, prosecutors or probation departments to build understanding of law enforcement and inspire careers while freeing staff. Departments receive 75 percent wage reimbursement up to a maximum of 1.50 per cadet. Cadets will train in first aid, driving safety, narcotics, public relations, paperwork, and procedures with roles in dispatch, records, court aid, jail, and community relations.
