Bus Wreck in Clearfield Injures 23 Passengers

A greyhound bus carrying 33 passengers overturned near the Clearfield exit on I 80 before dawn injuring 23. Carrie Harley of Cleveland is listed in satisfactory condition with possible back injuries. Ten passengers refused treatment. 22 treated and released at Clearfield Hospital.

Rhodes signs assault leave for teachers and staff

Gov James A Rhodes approves a bill letting teachers and school employees apply for assault leave if they are disabled by an on the job assault after September 30. The measure, authored by Rev Francine M Panehal, aims to preserve sick leave days for assault related disabilities.

Richard S. Harris of Dillonville wins the Buckeye 1000 Lottery drawing earning $1,000 a month for life. The 30 year old bulldozer operator at R and F Coal Co. Cadiz plans to decide the future with his wife and 9 year old daughter over the Fourth of July weekend. Winning numbers were 808, 1889, 2022, and 854229.

Board Meets Today To Certify Count

Aron County election crews completed a recount in two June primary contests and the board of elections will meet at 2 30 P M to certify results. Richard Reach sought a recount for the 72nd district state representative race won by Marie Tansey by 34 votes and Jane Adelman sought a recount for Huron County commissioner race won by James Seitz by 11 votes. A separate recount for alternate Republican National Convention delegates is set for next Wednesday.

Balloonist Sank After Atlantic Attempt Ends in Sea

Karl Thomas, the 27 year old balloonist, said from a Russian vessel that he was rescued after a thunderstorm forced his balloon to plunge into the sea about 550 miles southeast of New York. He sustained cracked ribs and internal bleeding but is recovering. He doubts another Atlantic crossing will happen soon.
