Slaying case stalls as lineup fails to ID youth

In Columbus witnesses did not positively identify the accused youth in a police lineup for the slaying of a Columbus Central High School teacher and a cafeteria manager. Donald Banks, 17, remains in custody on delinquency charges after a Sept. 14 escape from a juvenile facility. Banks turned himself in for questioning Saturday and had been sought since Friday.

Wallace signals stay in Democratic fold after Mississippi caucus wins

In Jackson Mississippi George Wallace said he plans to stay in the Democratic party after sweeping two-fifths of the votes in Mississippi precinct caucuses. He noted he has ruled out running as a third party candidate as returns come in from Mississippi. It contrasted with four years ago when caucuses favored George McGovern and Shirley Chisholm.

North Fairfield Man Dies In House Fire

Alfred G. Knoll 78 died in a Ridge Road fire four miles south of Norwalk. Fire crews from North Fairfield Norwalk Monroeville battled flames after Dr. William Holman preliminarily ruled accidental death. Funeral plans set in Norwalk with burial in North Fairfield Cemetery.

Norwalk Doctor Dr A H Kimmel dies after 42 years service

Dr. Alexander H. Kimmel a Norwalk physician for 42 years died Sunday night at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital after a four month illness. He was 73 and lived at 10 Warren Drive. He received the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce Dedicated Service Award in 1970. He served as chief of surgery at Norwalk Memorial and Fisher-Titus hospitals and led the Norwalk Clinic started in 1962 with Dr. Thomas. He was a WWII Air Force Medical Corps veteran and held memberships in multiple masonic bodies. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery with services Tuesday. Memorials to the American Cancer Society.
