Florida education officials reevaluate standard time after five student deaths during pre dawn darkness. Among the victims, 13 year old Robert Allen was struck while walking to Casselberry School, and 6 year old Richard Toudt was hit near Tampa while boarding a bus.
Texas legislator Rep. Billy Williamson argued it is better to tolerate some lung crud than let citizens sue over antipollution law violations. He dismissed environmentalist critics as meddling and claimed people should decide what is good to breathe for their families.
Former Vice President Spiro Agnew is writing a novel about a vice president programmed for disaster by the Chinese Communists. A major New York publisher reportedly rejected the manuscript, saying publication would be for curiosity value only.

Independent truckers planned a nationwide stoppage but early today it failed to materialize in Ohio as the Ohio Highway Patrol deployed a visible force along interstates and the turnpike. A patrol spokesman said officers were out to handle any situation and would not arrest without lawbreaking.
A flash fire at Sacred Heart Boys school in Heusen Belgium killed 23 students aged 12 to 15 and left 40 others escaping. Police said exits were absolutely inadequate and two injured boys suffered second or third degree burns while in serious condition.

Patricia S. Justi nineteen died after a Penn Central freight train struck her car at the George Street crossing in Sandusky. The train was moving about forty miles per hour, the car dragged a thousand feet before stopping. Justi was dead on arrival at Sandusky Memorial Hospital. she worked for Vulcan Materials Co. and had graduated from Edison High School in 1972.
An all points bulletin targets Jere David Crawford 21 New London alias Jerry Young for two counts of aggravated murder in the Hooker brothers killings. Thomas J. Hedges 23 Indianapolis is returning to Ohio after extradition waiver. both suspects face arraignment soon.
Catherine Allen named executrix as Ward family grieves two Hooker brothers shot to death at their New London area farmhouse. Herbert Allen, 57, found the men after daily checks. Wills filed for probate in Ashland County Probate Court.
