The El Lago Texas town council proposes offering seven space age assets to UPI and other outlets in exchange for favorable press coverage, but took no action amid mixed reactions from residents and officials.
A Houston meeting set for Jan 29 would discuss a proposed ordinance requiring news organizations with mobile broadcasting units and photo labs to pay a filing fee of 250 dollars, a 500 dollar operating fee for the first 72 hours, and 150 dollars per day thereafter with penalties including up to 200 dollars per day fine and potential jail for violators.

State Senator Ross Pepple released a two page report claiming high state support for public schools, stating Ohio ranks tenth nationally with 53.97 percent of operating costs funded by the state. Huron County Auditor Bernard Kean countered that most so called state assisted revenues come from locally raised taxes within state law, leaving actual state support well under 50 percent.
