Butz says food prices up slightly this year not farmers' fault
Agriculture Secretary Earl L. Butz warned that food prices would rise a bit in 1969 while farmers shoulder only part of the blame. He argued wheat sales to Russia last summer did not harm housewives, and feedgrains sent to Russia would not trigger U.S. shortages. In Columbus, Ohio, the state will showcase Neil Armstrong’s moon landing on a prominent inaugural parade float with a 12-foot moon replica and revolving earth.
