Emmit Jones, 39, of Greenwich, was arrested at home after his wife reported a shotgun threat. He faces intoxication and assault charges with a deadly weapon, pled not guilty to the assault count, and remains jailed on bond. He was previously found guilty of intoxication and fined $25.
City Solicitor Ronald H Freeman plans to send letters to two power consultants hired by the Finch administration and to Yankee Dixie Power Inc The action follows a Norwalk Reflector report that Richard Popham and Wallace Duncan previously worked for Yankee Dixie and that Pophams firm prepared the meeting presentation that led to Yankee Dixies founding Freeman will request written reports on past work and any current services for Yankee Dixie to determine potential conflicts of interest.
Avery E Hove Joint Vocational School will offer an evening reading program starting Monday with two class sections from 3 to 5 p m and 7 to 9 p m Students will be tested at the first session to determine needs and later divided into three groups remedial developmental or speed reading Each class includes 15 to 30 minutes of group instruction and individual work Registrations taken 8 30 a m to 9 p m at the school by phone or in person
Bruce A. Albert 16 of Greenwich lost control on a snow covered Fairfield Angling Road and struck a dirt embankment. He was not injured. Patrol reports detail several other accidents on U S 224 near Greenwich and Old State Road including injuries and improper turn charges.
Norwalk Charter Commission debated including an elected ceremonial mayor in the city manager form. Two commissioners urged reconsideration after voting down the mayor as part of the charter 5-2. The issue was carried over to the next meeting as attorney edits continued.
Avery-Lowell Hileman of New London was elected president of the EHOVE Joint Vocational School Board. Henry Ziegler of Bellevue was chosen vice-president.
