The Little Regiment and the Valley Forge Reminiscence
A dramatic Civil War era style tale recounts Morgan and Tarleton at the Carolina frontier with seven Hillier sons forming the famed Little Regiment, holding the line as the flag is defended and Morgan saves the day. Then a vivid Valley Forge winter sketch recalls Washington’s bivouac, huts, grain seizures, and Mrs. Washington aiding troops amid near-starvation.

Grant Falls Back toward the Mul River Front
From the Southwest dispatches report Gen. Grant has fallen back to the north side of the Mul Inhatelio river. The main army was at Holly Springs days ago and may use Memphis as a supply base through a Memphis and Charleston rail line to Grand Junction. Reports say a heavy Federal force moved up the river from New Orleans and the fleet, under Rear Admiral Parry, reached a point twelve miles below Vicksburg. 250 Federals at Davies Mills were attacked near Grand Junction and repulsed with 20 dead and 80 wounded. Van Dorn is believed between Bolivar and the Mississippi. In Arkansas, Van Buren was captured. Gen. Herron and Gen. Blunt led a 6,000-strong raid across Boston Mountains, marching 42 miles in six days with batteries, cavalry, and artillery reaching Lew’s Creek and then Vin Buren, while infantry followed.
