Ohio utilities avoid layoff cuts as coal shortage easing
Ohio energy officials told the Senate Energy Committee that coal stockpiles decline slower than feared. Utilities report weekly coal arrivals of about 190 000 tons non union, enough for 15 percent of needs, allowing a possible 1 to 2 week delay before any mandatory curtailment. Officials cited stockpiles around 33 to 43 days and continued out of state purchases and conservation measures.

VA Spending Drops In Huron County
Veterans Administration spending in Huron County will fall slightly in the new year said Gordon Holden, Veterans Service Officer. The 1977 VA budget for the county totals 2,273,288 for facilities, operations and benefits, down from 2,303,591 in fiscal year 1976. Holden links the dip to a projected decline in Vietnam era veterans receiving readjustment benefits and GI Bill payments.
