County Poverty Projects Slashed Protest Sent To Chicago

The Erie Huron Counties Community Action Commission protested federal cuts to anti poverty funding for Erie and Huron counties. A grant of 32 024 was approved from 56 880 requested, prompting staff and service reductions and a letter of dissatisfaction to Chicago. Emerson E Cole spoke for the commission. Columbia Gas Co robbed of 55 dollars at district offices

Burglars forced entry at Columbia Gas Co. district offices 166 Milan Ave. Tuesday night taking 55.74 from a desk near Clifford J. Fink's office. Entry was through a north door by breaking glass. Police, the sheriff, and state patrol assisted. janitor reported the building was locked at 10 ten. Case under investigation.

M Roeville Teachers Win Pay Hikes Of Up To $500

The M Roeville school board approved higher salaries for teachers with varying experience levels including new graduates earning $5,100 and masters degree holders at $5,500. Three new teachers may be added at about $18,000, financed by the current cash balance of $57,431 and state aid.

Merchants' Birthday Bargains Draw In Downtown Shoppers

Dozens of Norwalk residents mobbed downtown stores on George Washington's birthday chasing bar gains advertised by local merchants. Shoppers swarmed doors as cold wind and brisk sales created a madhouse like Valley Forge. Edward Rubinow of The Press Store described racks emptied and tables turned into tangled heaps while other shops reported brisk demand for pies and pastries.
