A deadly tornado ravaged Fort Valley Georgia causing heavy damage to homes and businesses. The storm system spawned multiple tornadoes across the South with at least one death and 100 plus injured. 14 seriously hurt in Fort Valley district.
Mexican President Luis Echeverria at an open session of an international commission denounces U S intervention in Chile's 1973 overthrow. In Ohio Gov Rhodes uses a Democratic package to fund schools with a 91.3 million supplemental appropriation sending 40 per pupil to 613 districts starting in March.
A city wage dispute over the 1975 contract stalled after Bill Smith of the OCSEA walked out of a closed session with City Finance Director Douglas Colvin. Officials dispute funding for a 50 cent hourly raise and argue about money reallocation in the budget.

Los Angeles court issued a protective order against Mr and Mrs Laing of Corona Del Mar restraining them from contacting Dr Lauris Jones and Constance Jones. Judge Harry Rupp fined the couple $400 for contempt and sentenced them to five days in jail, suspended, after threatening to jail the parents if they interfered with the Jones marriage. The case stems from guardianship action claiming hypnosis and starvation. Dr Jones, 57, Occidental College music professor, conductor, and church musician, said his wife is healthy and wishes to remain married. The couple previously obtained an $8,000 damages judgment against the Laings.
