Rostow told reporters after briefing President Eisenhower that the Tet offensive left Saigon militarily and politically stronger. Ronald Stang of Monroeville was in a minor collision on Route 113 just east of Milan at 8 35 am. Richard E Smith Jr of Collins drove left of center and struck Stang. No injuries reported. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage. Smith cited for left of center violation.
In Cincinnati seven Cox children perished in a Clifton house fire that gutted a two story frame dwelling. The victims Debbie 13 Connie 10 Connie 9 Sandy 8 Darrel 6 Gary 5 Brenda 2 died from smoke inhalation. The children and parents escaped by leaping from a second floor window as fire crews battled the blaze. The fire may have smoldered before discovery and an earlier basement rubbish fire linked to matches was reported.
Mrs. Mary Seel of Bellevue pleaded innocent in Huron County Juvenile Court to contributing to the delinquency of her 17-year-old daughter and was released after posting $1,000. Roger E. Air Force Lt. Col. Norris Overly returned to the United States with two fellow pilots weeks after being freed by North Vietnam. The 39-year-old, shot down in 1967, was greeted by wife Ruth and children Mike and Debbie at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Overly was promoted to lieutenant colonel upon release and remained hospitalized for debriefing and medical checks.
