Four photographers are missing after the press helicopter they rode in was shot down in Laos early Wednesday. Reported missing are United Press International's Kent Potter, Associated Press' Henri Huet, Life Magazine's Larry Burrows, and a Japanese freelance photographer.

Longtime Auditor Kean Dies in Norwalk

Bernard F. Kean longtime Huron County Auditor since 1947 died at his home age 67. A deputy in the county treasurer office in 1941 he was elected auditor in 1946 a former Republican chairman in Huron County and long serving Ohio National Guard officer. He led G Company of Norwalk 145th Infantry and held the rank of lieutenant colonel at death.

Reed Named Acting County Auditor in Huron County

Kenneth Reed was appointed acting county auditor by Huron County Commissioners after the death of Bernard Kean. He will serve until the Republican Central Committee appoints a replacement. Reed won the election for a term starting March 8 and has served as chief deputy since 1939, and previously acted as auditor during Kean's illness. He has handled county duties including duties for Christie Lane School and the Norwalk Furniture Corp bond matters.

Atkins tells jury she felt no remorse for Tate murder

Susan Atkins said she felt no remorse for killing Sharon Tate, claiming it felt good and describing the act as death and life in one motion during the penalty phase of the Tate LaBianca trial.

Rep. Arthur R. Bowers borrowed Gov. John J. Gilligan's gray Oldsmobile after a dead battery. The governor needed it at 8 am for Vice President Agnew, so Bowers returned it by 8 30. Agnew used the House bench later that day while Bowers stood nearby.

Long Beach Harbor Commission refused to renew Howard Hughes’ 7.2 acre lease for the Spruce Goose hangar area. The $26,000 annual lease ends Sept. 3 to clear the site for a marine terminal, with 180 days to remove the aircraft.

Fire damages house in New London residence

A basement fire at the Merle Chaffins home 43 Third St. caused water damage to a first floor wall and burned pictures in the kitchen. Fire Chief Al Walters cited furnace thermostat malfunction as a possible cause. Firemen remained on the scene over an hour. Mr. and Mrs. Chaffins were at home.

Wise enters race for Norwalk charter commission

Donald Wise 24 of 23 Newton Terrace filed petitions to run for the Norwalk charter commission becoming the fifth candidate. Fifteen members will be elected. A Tiffin University graduate and Citizens National Bank loan officer says Norwalk needs a change in government and calls the city his hometown.

Father buries son’s car after chase squashed by bulldozer

In Dartford England a truck driver crushed his son’s 12 year old car with a 20 ton bulldozer and buried the wreck in a quarry after learning of a police pursuit collision. The juvenile court fined the boy $38.40.

Witness Takes Blame as Defendant Walks Free in Larceny Case

At the Huron County Courthouse Mike Weston facing grand larceny charges over a 1968 motorcycle theft saw key witness Glenn T. Krebbs admit sole responsibility. The charge against Weston was dropped. Krebbs received 90 days with suspended sentence and probation, plus restitution.
