A TWA jetliner with 90 people aboard slipped off a runway at San Francisco International Airport and stuck in mud after rain. No injuries reported. Passengers were evacuated by bus and placed on alternate flights to Boston as workers spent 42 hours freeing the aircraft.
Agriculture Secretary Earl L. Butz asks the White House for permission to request Congress to approve more than $100 million in FMHA loans this spring to help finance what officials hope will be record 1975 crops.
A saleswoman found Regina Richardson, 23, dead on the living room floor in Alameda. Coroner suggests death may have occurred three days earlier. Three boys aged 2, 3, and 4 said their mother was sick. Children taken to juvenile home. No foul play suspected. autopsy pending this week.
Time Magazine reports physicians fear Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas may not walk again after a stroke on New Year’s Eve. His left leg shows little response to treatment, while the left arm remains nonfunctional though partially responsive. His intellect and vision have largely recovered.
About 12 000 aerospace workers walked off at McDonnell Douglas in St Louis after a midnight deadline. Picket lines formed at the aircraft complex as 7 000 IAMAW members joined in six Southern California plants at 12 01 a.m. PST.

A Huron County Grand Jury found Detective Donald Ratliff justified in killing John Benson during a December hostage incident.
