Hodson to celebrate 100th birthday in Vandalia

George Hodson of Vandalia Illinois will turn 100 this weekend and plans to rest on Saturday while still answering the phone and taking orders at a trucking firm run by three of his five sons. The elderly worker remains active in family business despite age.

Not Breathing Student Revived By Class

A Milan Elementary School EHOVE class aided by first aid training revived 17 year old Phil Pasnell of Monroeville after he stopped breathing from a thumb injury. Teacher Lynn Cole supervised 21 students as Darrell Pauley and another student performed mouth to mouth resuscitation. An ambulance transported Phil to Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital where staff found no damage. He was later referred to his family doctor.

Candy sale ends in quick robbery and arrests

Gregory Brewster, 10, was selling candy bars in Cincinnati to raise school funds when a car with five people stopped him. An assailant kicked him and grabbed his 22 king sized bars. Police arrested five suspects, with a 17 year old charged with robbery and three adults and a 14 year old charged with complicity.

Sparks Accepts Health Position in Huron County

Dr. Howard S. Sparks will become Huron County Health commissioner in June amid Dr. George F. Linn’s refusal to renew his contract. The board voted 4 to 1 to hire Sparks with a $20 000 annual salary. Linn has earned $34 500 annually including a 11 500 liability premium. Sparks currently serves as Ottawa County health commissioner and lives near Monroeville.
