The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra said New York Mayor John V. Lindsay will narrate Peter Mennin’s The Pied Piper of Hamlin at the May Festival opening. Lindsay will perform during the world premiere on May 2.
New York reports that 125 players voted unanimously to boycott spring training and the 1969 season if a pension deal and TV money terms aren’t agreed with MLB owners. Attorney Marvin Miller says players back their negotiating committee in the pension talks.
Col. Frank Borman, commander of Apollo 8, continues a 19 day Europe mission as Nixon envoy. He visits Prime Minister Harold Wilson at Downing Street and is received by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, highlighting strong US British ties.
