Milan man pleads no contest in 1976 Stower deaths
Donald R. Shantz of Milan pleads no contest to two counts of vehicular homicide in the Milan Avenue crash that killed Mr. and Mrs. Russell Stower on January 11 1976. Judge Robert W. Smith convicts on both counts but imposes no sentence on one and a $1000 fine plus six month suspended jail term on the other. Shantz license is suspended six months and he receives one year probation. Shantz claims no memory of the crash attributing it to a head injury. The prosecutor notes no evidence of alcohol involvement. Shantz is also a party to civil actions filed by the Stower relatives and by Shantz over the accident.

Prinze Fan 13 Ends Life in Mirrored Tragedy
Lynn Ann Barrillier a 13 year old Glendale girl and devoted Freddie Prinze fan killed herself with her father’s pistol citing a wish to join the late comedian. She planned burial in her blue skirt beside Prinze and left a five page note stating her unhappiness and no one’s fault. The girl lingered after the self inflicted shot and died Tuesday night at Verdugo Hills Hospital.
