Queen Anne Marie of Greece suffered a miscarriage announced by her doctor in Rome. Accompanied by King Constantine the royal couple visited Villa Claudia Clinic late Thursday and returned to the Greek Embassy about five hours later. They have two other children.
Reports from Detroit say the city’s Teamsters rejected a contract ending a 44 day strike and warn of spring bargaining. In San Antonio the President and Mrs Johnson keep New Year resolutions private. In Cam Ranh Bay Bob Hope bid farewell to Vietnam after 11 shows. In Cleveland a Pepper Pike graduate received five years probation for bank robbery attempt. Washington weighs Cambodian offer amid Viet Cong cross border concerns.
The five member Huron Housing Authority for New London Willard plans an initial gathering after the new year. Member Ralph Marks will reach out to other members and review papers and state forms with guidance from housing official Ronald Ashley. A separate note reports a tarpaulin fire on the Norwalk electric plant adding limited damage on the second floor. Sheriff John Borgia, hospitalized for back pains two weeks, shows slight improvement.
Eli Carrol 22 of 250 West Main Street had a three month jail sentence for selling a soft drink machine at his workplace service station. Two months of the balance were suspended Thursday. Kohlmyer's Ace Hardware to consolidate operations into the western room at 16 West Main Street, leaving 14 and 16 in use, making Kohlmyer the city’s sole hardware store after Norwalk Hardware went out of business. Sihanouk signals Cambodia may refrain from military action if US forces enter to fight Viet Cong or North Vietnamese forces, marking a shift from prior rejection of informal talks on sanctuary policy. The interview also notes possible informal talks and Cambodia’s stance on border incidents and external aid.

Jessie C. Harris 23 of Sandusky is charged with disturbing the peace after a gun incident at 25 Reed. Norwalk police say Harris pressured Rosie Lee Wright to ride with him and discharged a .22 rifle, with Eddie Barry involved in the struggle and Harris detained in Huron County jail with $100 bond.
Kenneth Thornton of Willard was elected president of the Huron County Bar Association on Thursday. Norwalk’s Walter Hite won the County Law Library Association presidency, with officers including Don ald M. Derby as vice president and Frederick F. Waugh as secretary-treasurer. Other law library leaders include T. L. Paffenbarger vice president, Warren W. Ruggles secretary, and Waugh treasurer. Trustees named were Derby, Bernard W. Freeman, Henry E. Young, and Judge Robert J. Vetter.
Mr and Mrs Raymond Flanagan sold the greenhouse and flower shop at 76 Woodlawn Ave to Mr and Mrs Paul Temple. The deed was filed with Huron County recorder this morning. The Temples took over Dec 1 and renamed the business Temple Flower Shop. They also purchased the adjacent home.
Paul Smith, 33, of Vermilion, turned himself in at the police station with a 12 gauge shotgun after allegedly shooting his brother Donald Smith Christmas Day. Smith is bound over to the grand jury on first degree manslaughter charges and held on $10,000 bond. He faces a grand jury January 31. the case follows Vermilion police testimony detailing the fatal wound.
