Roving U.S. Ambassador W Averell Harriman flew to Warsaw by presidential jet on a surprise, top secret mission tied to trying to end fighting in Vietnam. He was escorted by China experts as Warsaw is a key U S diplomatic contact with Communist China.
Labor Secretary Wirtz took up the 29 day strike at Olin Mathieson Chemical Co in East Alton Illinois, supplier of powder for U S small arms, raising national concern over possible disruption of war materials. Fire caused extensive damage at Shillito s department store in downtown Cincinnati with losses estimated up to 200 000 dollars.
William H. Grosscup Jr of New London a truck driver and Opal J. Sickles of New London a seamstress have been granted a marriage license in the record.
