Alexandria Kentucky police and state investigators continue an intensive search for Keith Holliday missing since Wednesday. Detectives consider kidnapping as a possibility though no ransom demands have appeared, while authorities pursue all leads in the case.
Gov. Milliken gave state officials 24 hours to propose steps to remove double-bottom tanker trucks from Michigan roads after a tandem tanker rear trailer overturned in Oak Park killing one and injuring three. He also ordered a report on phasing out the trucks next year.
United Airlines at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport carried 8 835 passengers in a single day last Monday. The record used 95 scheduled flights plus four extra trips with 85 7 percent of seats filled. Daily seats total 10 641. The prior local record was 8 775 set on Nov 30 1975.
Secretary of State Ted W. Brown will return over 1 million dollars of the 1978 79 budget to the Ohio General Assembly as election day voter registration is no longer needed. The office had received 1.8 million last June to implement election day registration and ensure fair elections. Brown has allocated 359 240 dollars to reimburse county boards of election for costs of conducting election day registration last November. Henrietta Hogan of Cicero gave her daughter-in-law Maryann a Christmas gift by buying instant lottery tickets for her. Maryann forgot the tickets until the next morning and scratched off a $10,000 prize. She plans to use part for bills and save the rest.
Chicago story reports 17 year old busboy Brian Carlson of Des Plaines found 22 861 stuffed in a shaving kit at Howard Johnsons on the Northwest Tollway Des Plaines Oasis. He handed the money to state police and it was returned to Joseph T Faust of Marathon Florida who proved the ownership. Carlson, paid 2 40 an hour, weighed options but chose honesty and continued working after turning in the money.
The Census Bureau reports Americans enjoy more income and leisure time but face family instability as divorce rises and families head by women increase. Television remains the top pastime while horse racing attracts massive viewership. Life expectancy climbs, education rises yet functional illiteracy persists.
Norwalk residents face an estimated $65.10 yearly increase for a $30,000 home in 1978 due to a four mill operating levy and a $1 million bond. The bond will run six years, the levy permanent, funding Pleasant Street School repairs and roof work while easing a prior sewer project debt.
The Norwalk Huron County Airport Authority voted December 5 to hire aeronautical law specialist Harry Riggs at 500 per day and 60 per research hour to defend the authority city and county against a lawsuit by airport operator Ron Zoellner. The case asks if Zoellner's lease termination was justified with trial postponed.
Former attorney general John Mitchell, thinner after six months in jail for Watergate crimes, leaves prison on an 18 day medical furlough for hip treatment. He boards a red station wagon to Montgomery Airport with Ira Dement and a police detective. Dement remarks this could be Christmas as Mitchell says this is Christmas. A pep rally for Flyers fans is set at St Paul’s gym at 7:30 tonight.
Cindy Klett, 12, of 18 Maple Street, a Norwalk Junior High student, has worked as a Reflector carrier for 15 months delivering to Oak Street and Norwood Avenue. She bought a 10 speed bicycle and saved 135 dollars in the bank. Her parents are Mary and David Klett.
