UPI reports NAACP representative Clarence Mitchell saying race is not the sole factor in Rep. Adam Clayton Powell's congressional seat battle. He notes Powell has enemies who would like to remove him, complicating motivations beyond race.
In San Francisco an Army officer announced that Sgt. Richard F. Campos, killed in Vietnam, would be buried with full military honors only if no relatives are found. Campos was an orphan and the only one of over 6,000 Americans killed in Vietnam not claimed.
The United States will ship 900000 tons of food grains to drought struck India, ending a month long halt on such aid shipments. In New Delhi the Russians pledged 200000 tons of wheat as a gift.
Weather updates show highs near 25 to 29 degrees with overnight lows around 12 to 17. Skies stay mostly cloudy with occasional snow flurries and a small wintry temperature swing through Saturday. A marriage license was filed for William A Schiendley of Bellevue and Virginia Sue Chambers of Norwalk, a beautician.
In Columbus a 9 year old girl Nancy Hancock died after injuries from a car accident. Her kidney was transplanted to 17 year old Alvin Alltop saving his life after a four hour operation. Linden Lechner had a prior transplant last year.
The United States will airlift military equipment and accelerate delivery of F104 fighters to Jordan over 30 to 60 days to bolster King Hussein's regime amid regional tension. The aid focuses on communications, mobility, and border defense as Hussein faces internal and regional pressure following the Es Samu raid.
Gen. Westmoreland warned U S troops of a possible major Communist offensive before the Christmas truce. B52 bombers attacked suspected troop concentrations north of the DMZ while Marines fought Red forces south of the zone, tallying 175 killed. The 7th Fleet shelled coastal positions and the destroyer O'Brien reported light casualties from a shore battery. The cease fire lasts 48 hours.
Paffenbarger named temporary chairman of the Huron County Airport Authority formed by the county commissioners. He tentatively schedules the initial organizational meeting for Wednesday afternoon in his office. Other board trustees include John Baltes, Robert Chapin, Tom Len drum, and James Esker.
Look Magazine said it would take steps to prevent a German magazine from printing the unexpurgated version of The Death of a President. The publisher had agreed to deletions in its serialization after Mrs. John F. Kennedy objected to emotional reactions and details about her children. Stern magazine maintains its rights to publish the unabridged text, which it bought from Look for 72500 dollars.

UPI reports Salt Lake City lawyer Craddock M. Gilmour Sr vows continued efforts to free a second youth facing three years in a Siberian prison camp. He arrived with his son Craddock Jr from Leningrad en route to the United States and Britain.
