Ohio Legislature In Review 1978 brings full time pay rise
The 1978 Ohio General Assembly focused on preventing school closings, addressing winter fuel shortages, industrial development, crime and energy. It approved a $115 million package to keep schools open, plus a $40 million loan fund and new management tools for districts. A $5,000 pay raise sparked controversy. Lawmakers created an energy department, passed crime and tax measures, and moved to tandem governor and lieutenant governor elections. The session also funded manufacturing, foreign trade incentives, and home improvement credits while expanding banking and loosening helmet laws.
