The Lake Erie Chapter of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers selected eight area high school students as local finalists for state and national scholarships. National winners receive 1000 to 4000 dollars with some full scholarships. finalists advance to Columbus for 11 state scholarships and then to Washington DC for grants from 87 colleges and foundations. Industrial Savings and Loan opens Norwalk office
The Industrial Savings and Loan Association celebrated its Norwalk office grand opening with a ribbon cutting and open house. Manager David Windau said bad weather extended the event. visitors could still register for gifts including a microwave oven, with a drawing slated for Jan. 14. The body holds assets over 48 million dollars and operates four offices in Bellevue Clyde Willard and Norwalk.

Sandusky Boating Safety Classes Begin in January
A free 10 week boating course offered by the Sandusky Power Squadron starts January 5 in Sandusky. Topics include boat handling weather rules lights trailering piloting and chart reading. Registration is at room 300 Sandusky High School. Marine Private First Class Vicki L. Rees from Willard was meritoriously promoted at Parris Island after eight weeks of training. She is a 1977 Willard High School graduate who joined the Marine Corps in August 1977.

Western Reserve School District names grant programs coordinator
Principal Andrew Valachek of Wakeman Middle School was named coordinator of all federal grant programs for the Western Reserve School District. He will write grant proposals and review federally funded programs. The board transferred 294.74 from Title IVC funds to the general fund and will return the money to Columbus for the Title IV kitty.

Oberlin General Telephone sets last day for directory changes
Oberlin General Telephone Co of Ohio announced December 22 as the final day to report listing corrections for the Oberlin phone directory. Eugene Redden, customer service manager, urged customers to submit changes before then, including moves or new installations, with the 1978 directory to be delivered in March.
