New London Grove Street Cemetery Increases Fees
The Grove Street cemetery in New London will raise grave space prices from 50 and 75 dollars to 90 dollars and opening and closing fees from 50 to 75 dollars, effective January 1 1974. Chairman Richard Eastman cites higher labor and material costs and plans for added security and land expansion as reasons for the higher rates. The board is negotiating to buy more land from Kenneth and Susan Long south of the current cemetery and at Recreation Park east end, which will raise mowing and upkeep expenses. The seven acre site now employs a part time sexton paid 55 dollars monthly.
