Summerlin Loses Carryout Permits Over Obscene Book Conviction
The Ohio Department of Liquor Control refused to renew carryout permits for Robert D. Summerlin of Bob's Grocery and News Stand and denied transferring them to his wife Elizabeth. The action stems from Summerlin's February conviction in Common Pleas Court for selling an obscene book, with a sentence of one to seven years and an appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court. The department cited misstatements on the renewal and noted the continuing interest in the business by Summerlin as reasons to deny. Summerlin criticized the decision as harming his business while vowing to fight the conviction.
