Nursing homes face forced closures over fire safety upgrades
State Fire Marshal James Caldwell said a few nursing homes will be closed next month for lacking installed electric fire alarm and sprinkler systems. He estimated 100 to 110 homes may shut, though operators hope upgrades arrive in time. Welfare Director Charles Bates met with operators but offered no promises. Daniel Reynolds of Columbus noted many affected homes house elderly Medicaid patients.
