Agriculture Department plans a maroon five dollar food stamp series to aid nearly nine million needy families. The stamps allow purchases of about ten dollars of food with four dollars cash, replacing blue two dollar and orange fifty cent versions.
The Coast Guard charges that Sylvania captain Burris Wolters ignored rescue duty as two men drowned near Bob Lo Island in the Detroit River on November 21. The freighter did not drop anchor while moving slowly near the victims. the Gypsum later rescued one as others failed. Caminiti's body was recovered.
Two hundred students from Adh Junior High and Columbian Elementary in Avondale will honor Patrolman Edmund Schindler at the District 4 station with a cake and gifts. Schindler, shot in the back Aug 23, is 29 and recovering from his injury.
In San Francisco police used clubs and mounted horses to break up hundreds of rock throwing demonstrators outside the hotel hosting South Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Cao Ky. Ky urged continued support for his government amid San Francisco residents voting on a Nov. referendum for immediate U.S. troop withdrawal from Vietnam.

Two lawmakers John Ashbrook and Frank Thompson plan a resolution to form a committee of H R Gross to inspect U S economic and military aid abroad for Jan 1 to June 30 1971. Gross opposes congressional trips and has never traveled outside the United States.
Bernard Logan has resigned as executive vice president of Home Savings and Loan Co. of Norwalk effective immediately. Board President Herbert Freeman confirmed the resignation as Logan cited personal reasons. Gerald Stoll was named acting manager, with no plan announced for a new executive officer.
The city of Willard faces a $190,000 personal injury suit after a bleacher collapse at Willard Municipal Park on August 24, 1969. Lawrence A. Farley, on behalf of his 15 year old daughter Vicki, seeks $150,000 for her and $40,000 for himself, alleging city ownership and negligence. The city claims governmental immunity and denies ownership and negligence. a jury trial is requested.
The 1970 Norwalk Area United Fund campaign ends at 72009 pledged or collected, a record and 98 percent of the 74030 goal. President B Harry Parke says the goal can still be reached if remaining businesses and individuals contribute. Ballots for directors will be available at three banks Monday. ten nominees vie, top five win three-year terms. Ballot deadline is Dec 28, with the annual meeting set for Dec 30 at an as yet unnamed location.
December warmth brings 66 degree temperatures in Norwalk breaking the 1901 record of 64. Shoppers on Main Street wear light jackets as no snow arrives. In San Francisco, South Vietnam Vice President Nguyen Cao Ky denied calling Adolf Hitler his hero, calling the question inappropriate.
Norwalk City Council unanimously approves a new electric rate ordinance with the city to pay for most electricity use including water plants city hall and parks. The plan shifts fuel cost risk to the city and moves rate rise authority from the service director to the council. The ordinance takes effect January 1 with five schedules detailing residential non residential and large power rates plus street light charges.
