Fire at Janesville Cotton Mills on St. Mary's Street damaged a forming jute machine used to turn fiber into mats. Water caused most damage. production halted about two hours. Fire officials uncertain of cause. Norwalk firefighters were on scene about an hour.
A Sandus man, Willie Hunter, 22, is listed in fair condition at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital after his car left State 113 in Erie County at 3 a.m. and struck two trees. Passenger Jerold Flournoy, 23, was treated at the same hospital. The crash remains under investigation and the car was demolished.
Raymond Dietz, 25, of Newton Falls, was admitted to hospital with bruises after his eastbound semitrailer rear-ended another semi driven by Robert Lee Crawford, 37, of rural Norwalk. Both drivers were cited for differing violations. A second semi driven by Noble E. Purdy, 43, of Killbuck, jackknifed and hit a route marker after losing control on a curve. Purdy was cited for speed. The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 5 250 at the junction of 162 at Fitchville.

Commander Robert Tesmer of Norwalk VFW Post announces Viet Nam service members eligible for Veterans of Foreign Wars membership via the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Eligible periods include Viet Nam 1958 to 1965 and other regions through 1964. Active duty servicemen may join VFW Post 2743 at no cost.
James Schafer aged 18 of Willard was injured at Janesville Cotton Mill last week and transferred to Ohio State University Hospital Columbus on Thanksgiving Day where doctors amputated his left arm. He remains in Room 787 at the hospital.
