Prosecutors studied a defense bid to join in selecting a blue ribbon panel of mental experts to examine Richard Speck the eight nurse killer. Public defender Gerald W Getty filed six motions as Speck sat before Judge Herbert C Paschen.
Pittsburgh and Dayton UPI reports say investigators could not locate the inch long silver radium capsule reported missing between Texas and New York. In Dayton two teen discotheque dancers John Upchurch and Charlene Webb picketed the Zebra Lounge at Stratford House protesting management as unfair to terpischoreans.
FBI agents arrest Leonard Fairforth, 26, of Philadelphia, on charges of threatening the life of President Johnson and sending obscene letters to his daughter Luci and other prominent persons.
A meteorite blaze over the Pittsburgh area early today frightened hundreds as it flashed across the sky. Officials at Allegheny Observatory and Buhl Planetarium described the event as minus six magnitude and the brightest possible, saying it lit the area like a flashbulb.

Norwalk High Norwalk St Pauls and all Ohio high schools began football practice today at Whitney Field. The picture shows St Pauls reserves in a scrimmage type workout as both schools hit the turf on opening day.
At a House Un American Activities hearing Brig Gen James D Hittle was targeted by five young women and a man who shouted murderers. Police removed the six as they identified with antiwar groups opposing U S involvement in Vietnam.
On Jacobs Road near Lovers Lane Norwalk Ohio several teens looking for UFOs rode in a car driven by Donald J. Linder 18. Harley Penwell 17 clung to the car and fell, injuring his head. he was taken to Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital in fair condition. An observatory in Pennsylvania reported a bright shadow producing meteor at 11 55 pm Thursday, minutes before the crash.
Eight year old Donald Sanders of 60 Norwood Avenue died after a fall at his residence. Police and authorities investigated the incident as a fatal accident with no immediate signs of foul play.
State Senator Donald J. Pease will speak at a Norwalk City Schools meeting for all teachers at 9 a.m. Sept. 2 in the high school. Dr. Sturgis R. Corbin and Dale Olsen also will speak. New-teacher orientation occurs Sept. 1 at 9:30 a.m. with policy briefings and principal meetings prior to elementary and secondary sessions after a luncheon by PTA units.
A $15,931 civil suit filed in Huron County Common Pleas Court by Merton R. Ackerman of Sandusky on behalf of his son David against Robert A. Ackerman of Monroeville was settled and dismissed. The dispute stemmed from an incident on June 28, 1964, when the boys were climbing a tree on Robert Ackerman’s father’s premises.
Meyer Sugarman, a 41 year old Chicago area businessman, married Gladys Jaffe and planned a New York honeymoon at the Nevele. Washington decision makers reportedly shifted plans for a presidential visit, canceling his Nevele reservation and prompting a complaint to the White House.
Alfred D Etterre, a business education teacher at South Central High, was named principal of the high school. Superintendent George McNemar announced the appointment as 10 teaching vacancies remain across four county districts. Ralph Brown reported Western Reserve District and New London and Monroeville openings, with about six applications under consideration.
Norwalk City schools seek one kindergarten and one sixth grade teacher for the upcoming year. Dr. Sturgis R. Corbin would consider a full day kindergarten, or two half day teachers, and for sixth grade either full year or one semester. Householders with college degrees, not limited to education, urged to apply. School opens September 6.
