A 196-year commemorated Great 1908 New York to Paris race restages in 1967 with antique cars older than 1914. The event runs 60 days from May 28 to July 25, starting in Paris and finishing in Times Square New York.
Ohio State Lottery Director Robert M. Chiaramonte quits after a week citing hands tied by governor and inability to hire or fire personnel. He told reporters he faced constraints preventing him from cleaning up the lottery mess and submitted his resignation to Gov. James A. Rhodes.
An ordinance would set a flat rate of 80 cents per 1000 gallons for water and 48 cents per 1000 gallons for sewers, replacing the tiered system. The plan would cut bills for 41 percent of customers while raising some for 25 percent and lowering the minimum charge to six dollars forty cents. Approximately 2,400 people attended despite rain threats and the grandstand show drew only half full. The sale included about 300 animals and continued into mid afternoon.
William Thompson Jr. of Bellevue was convicted on 18 counts of forgery and theft in an embezzlement case involving Ironwood Inc. A 15 to 85 year sentence was suspended with probation and a plan to repay about $77,000 to Ironwood and other creditors. Thompson will not change jobs, gamble, or use personal funds until repayment is complete, estimated at seven to eight years. He remains employed by Medical Datamation Inc. while probation runs, with wife supporting the family.
