William Paul, 60, celebrated his heart transplant anniversary as he wed Elizabeth Kirke on the Friday the 13th. Father John Ring blessed the ceremony for 150 guests, calling the event a sign of generosity to man.
The FDA confirmed 6900 dozen eggs were confiscated in the first such seizure after tests showed PCB levels above tolerance. The eggs came from chickens fed contaminated feed and no human exposure endangerment was reported. Deputy FDA Commissioner James D. Grant noted no risk to those who may have eaten the eggs.
The EPA released final rules stating states do not need to adopt merit systems for industrial pollution sources or emission inspection programs for motor vehicles to meet federal clean air standards. In Plymouth Park Avenue a 24 year old man with a butcher knife pressed to his stomach faced Police Chief Robert Meiser who talked him into surrendering the weapon after about 45 minutes. Deputies and Greenwich officers watched as a tear gas bomb was used and the man, Walter Stover, agreed to be taken to a state hospital. Stover, an auxiliary Greenwich officer and factory worker, had threatened his family and later his own life before the standoff ended.
