Norwalk officials pressed County Commissioners for ambulance service. County Chairman Robertson said ambulance needs are local not county wide and projected service would reach at most 40 percent of the population. Counciman Cunningham warned against duplicating services echoing past landfill issues as several towns would retain funeral home services.
Norwalk police report 15 year old Dallas F. Smith was bitten by a small black and white dog near 12 S Garden St. Wednesday night. He received a tetanus shot and may need rabies injections if the dog is not found by Monday. witnesses urged to contact police at 668 4141.
Huron County's share of state taxes on bank deposits declined this year despite a record $54 million distribution. County Auditor Kenneth Reed reported $243,206 received from the state tax, below an estimated $245,072, the first time the county has fallen short of estimate. The drop is blamed on reduced local bank deposits. Huron was the sole Ohio county with a decrease in actual receipts from 1968 to the current distribution, which fell by $14,763 from last year.
Apollo 11 astronauts Michael Collins Edwin E Aldrin and Neil Armstrong flew home to Texas after a cross country tour and a three week quarantine. They rested overnight at the Century Plaza Hotel as President Nixon hosted a state dinner.
Neil Armstrong choked back tears as the Apollo 11 team toured Manhattan Chicago and a Pacific state dinner in a hero’s welcome. Nixon toasted Armstrong Aldrin and Collins while diplomats stars and governors packed the Century Plaza and the Astrodome ahead of plans for a 49 day world tour.
