Bloomville Boy Killed in Celeryville Vehicle Swap Crash

Gary Chaffee 15 of Bloomville died from a broken neck after a car struck the rear of a scooter on Ohio 298 near Celeryville. Co occupants Neal Hunter 16 and Albert Workman 18, Plymouth residents, had swapped vehicles just for a lark. the crash killed Chaffee and left Workman injured. The incident, occurring around 12:20 pm, marked the counties twenty second traffic fatality of the year and is under investigation.

Bombers strike near border in second straight day

U.S. bombers attacked vital North Vietnamese railroad targets within ten miles of the Chinese border for a second day. Lang Son bridge was hit on Sunday and another bridge near it today, as Washington officials say Johnson approved the planned strikes aimed at halting war material flows from Red China.

Guard Unit Returns From Camp Greyling

The Norwalk National Guard unit finished a two week training at Camp Greyling Michigan. Members returned by bus Saturday and by truck later Saturday evening. Officers dismissed the unit around noon Sunday. Sgt. Ed Reidy said the camp went well.

MONROEVILLE police say a shirt seen in a photo may link to the July 27 Alma Miller slaying as investigators check tips from about 100 people. Chief Jerrold Henery cautions there is no definite lead yet. A separate MONROEVILLE burglary at a dairy bar yielded food and drink items, with entry through a window and exit via a door. In Milan, the Milan Pharmacy will open soon at 11 W Front St under Kaiser-Wells Drug, run by John Kaiser Jr. Three Vermilion teens are hospitalized after a car struck a freight train at Joppa Road, the driver 16 and two passengers 14 and 13, with serious injuries reported.

Norwalk GOP to Pick Council Candidate Aug 21

The Norwalk Republican Central Committee will meet at 7 30 p m August 21 at the Chamber of Commerce to nominate a first ward council candidate. The vacancy arose after Lawrence Ford withdrew for health reasons. The meeting was moved from Thursday due to a clash with another event.
