Roof collapse at Rosemont stadium under construction kills several

The Rosemont Horizon Stadium roof collapsed early today northwest of Chicago. Five dead expected at Resurrection Hospital with more than 50 trapped inside. Emergency crews from Chicago and seven suburbs rushed to the scene as workers and ambulances filled the area near O'Hare.

Chavez ends farm workers convention with contract breakthrough

Cesar Chavez, weakened by a water fast, announced that United Farm Workers reached a contract with a large tomato grower. The secret vote ratified the agreement and the contract was signed Sunday afternoon as delegates left the convention hall. In Greece, two U S Marines were killed when an AH 1 Cobra crashed during a 6th Fleet training exercise near the Strymon Gulf after dawn.

Boxboard on the job as talks continue at Boxboard Packaging

Union employees at Boxboard Packaging Company worked today while their two year contract expired August 1. Negotiations for 104 Printing Specialty Union workers were held Saturday at the Maple Tree Lounge. Walter Baisch, president of the company, said this morning they were "just talking" and expected more information by the weekend. Union officials were not available for comment.

Realtors Oppose 200 Percent Real Estate Fee Increase

About 40 Realtors and home builders urged County Commissioners at a 1980 budget hearing to reject a proposed fee hike from 1 to 3 dollars per thousand of property value. They argued the step would burden a few and harm property transfers while funding a county computer system and property value updates.

Rural Norwalk man to face trial for Western Reserve fire

Jury selection starts Tuesday in Huron County Common Pleas Court for Robert D. Sura charged with arson and breaking and entering over a December fire at Western Reserve school. His attorney’s motions to suppress evidence and change venue were denied. A Collins man who aided the break in pled guilty and faces six months to five years. released on shock probation last May and slated to testify. The fire caused about $100,000 in damages.

Reflector asks carriers to stop using mailboxes

The postal service has informed the Reflector that newspapers should not be placed in mailboxes. Postal regulations are now being enforced and Reflector asks carriers to stop placing papers in mailboxes to avoid removal or postage charges.
