The Knights of Columbus in New Haven denounced Betty Ford’s remarks on sex marijuana and abortion on 60 Minutes. Supreme Knight John W. McDevitt warned the statements would mislead youth and praised premarital sex marijuana use and abortion as shocking.
In Elyria Ohio roving bands of black youths smashed store windows and damaged 15 to 20 cars in the southwest area late Tuesday and today. Police Lt Lou Radea said investigators could not confirm a link to a fatal bar shooting earlier Tuesday. The bar was firebombed twice that night as officers were held over to control the disturbance.
UPI reports seven plague cases in New Mexico this year, including a 64 year old Cuba, New Mexico woman and a 4 year old girl in the same area. Health officials escalate flea control to curb spread of bubonic plague.

Steve Gray 17 and Linda Walcher, both teens from New London and North Fairfield, were crowned Huron County Junior Fair royalty on Tuesday night. Gray plans farming after graduation while Walcher, a 1975 South Central High graduate, is the daughter of Ralph Walcher.

Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital plans a medical office building adjacent to the campus on hospital land. Administrator Richard C. Westhofen cited a Ryan Advisors preliminary report urging additional space to attract physicians. Details on cost size and location are not set. offices will be leased to doctors as drawings progress.
The adopted heirs James S. Jones and Martha J. Matthews filed suit challenging Olive Edna Bollenbacher’s will dated October 6, 1971. They name executor Lyle R. Fisher and four beneficiaries, seeking a jury trial while noting the decedent’s near poverty and charitable giving.
