Poor Corn Harvest To Boost Meat Prices
The Agriculture Department warns the Midwest drought will lift meat prices next year due to a corn shortfall. August crop report shows corn harvest just under 5 billion bushels, down 12 percent from last year and 25 percent from projections. Wheat production hits a record 1.8 billion bushels while soybeans fall 16 percent. Officials expect upward food-price pressure with possible more beef pork and poultry this fall, but higher prices next year as feed costs rise.
