Humphrey Attacks Campaign Financing as Dirty Politics
WASHINGTON UPI Hubert Humphrey called the fight for campaign money the most demeaning part of politics while backing a Senate Scott Kennedy plan for federal financing of presidential, senatorial and congressional campaigns. Congress already authorized federal funding starting in 1976 via a $1 tax checkoff, but initial receipts were only about $4 million and practical hurdles remain.
