Richard A. Agnew 28 of Jonesville Michigan is named as the truck driver killed on the Ohio Turnpike Saturday morning. Police say the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel.
Horace Adris and Sharon Adris swam 100 yards to shore to warn Coast Guardsmen after their Erie Michigan friends Mr and Mrs Whitforth clung to a 16 foot boat for six hours. The Whitforths wife is due in a month. The boat ran dry then capsized when they stood up to seek help from passing craft.
In Pittsburgh USW and steel industry reps reopened contract talks aiming to avoid a September 1 walkout. An industry spokesman said sessions would continue in a pattern similar to last week with subcommittees meeting company by company as I W Abel and R Conrad Cooper met a couple of times.

The session will tackle two must pass measures the school subsidy bill and the $279 million capital improvements appropriation. House Speaker Roger Cloud leads a joint conference on the school aid bill with the Senate Education Committee chair.
The conference panel and Rhodes administration clash over how to divide education funds. Senator Pepple pushes for changes to the House plan and opposes a Senate proposal to spend eight million for supplemental teacher pay tied to a tax valuation scale.
Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach told 548 registered officials in seven southern states that federal examiners will be sent to hard core counties where voting rights denials persist. He emphasized compliance while noting the plan to begin in counties across Louisiana Alabama Mississippi Georgia and South Carolina.
A two car Ohio Turnpike crash seven miles east of the Norwalk Sandusky interchange killed Robert Kojima 43 of Silver Spring Maryland a chief cartographer with the US Geological Survey. His wife Fumiyo 33 and two sons Justin 10 and Rolfe 6 were hospitalized with injuries. The other driver James Sullivan 45 of Cleveland was released. passenger Ella Watkins 38 of Cleveland remained with injuries. Sullivan was cited for parking on the highway after pulling off to sleep.
A man and woman were captured after a five mile chase at speeds up to 110 mph in heavy rain. Both were jailed in Medina County with charges including breaking and entering aiding and abetting and carrying a concealed weapon. The man, Eric I Lewis, 32, of Flint Michigan, and Virginia M Cotton, 28, of Pittsburgh, were identified after a rock was thrown at a residence and a loaded revolver found in the car.
Ralph Brown county superintendent presented progress on EHOVE recommendations at the Huron County Board of Education meeting. The report noted the need to form an EHOVE board after state and voter approval, with two Huron County members tentatively chosen. The board approved 7594.04 to pay the last two months’ bills.
AMERICUS Ga UPT A civil rights leader predicted more than 500 Negroes would turn out today in a voter registration drive at the Sumter County Courthouse under the nations new voter rights bill. While Bolden of Atlanta a field secretary of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference SCLC said Negroes would keep coming all day long. More than 700 Klansmen and Klanswomen some with their children and sympathizers paraded silently Sunday.
Two men, Kim Zahner 19 of Bellevue and James F Mahl 24 of Attica, swerved to miss dogs causing separate crashes. Zahner slid into a ditch on Luis Rd injuring a bruised shoulder, untreated. Mahl hit a bridge railing on Wood Rd, his car rolled, he suffered a cut over the eye and was cited for speeding.
A group of youths at 35 Marian Drive in Norwalk raised an effigy and placed a picnic table on a rooftop to protest voting and drinking age, contending they may face the draft. Neighbors complained of noise. police ordered removal of the table while the youths criticized conformity.
