Truck driver killed on Ohio Turnpike identified

Richard A. Agnew 28 of Jonesville Michigan is named as the truck driver killed on the Ohio Turnpike Saturday morning. Police say the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

Erie couples survive capsize in Lake Erie near Port Clinton

Horace Adris and Sharon Adris swam 100 yards to shore to warn Coast Guardsmen after their Erie Michigan friends Mr and Mrs Whitforth clung to a 16 foot boat for six hours. The Whitforths wife is due in a month. The boat ran dry then capsized when they stood up to seek help from passing craft.

Steelworkers and industry resume talks to avert strike

In Pittsburgh USW and steel industry reps reopened contract talks aiming to avoid a September 1 walkout. An industry spokesman said sessions would continue in a pattern similar to last week with subcommittees meeting company by company as I W Abel and R Conrad Cooper met a couple of times.

Man Killed in Pike Turnpike Crash Kills Father and Injures Family

A two car Ohio Turnpike crash seven miles east of the Norwalk Sandusky interchange killed Robert Kojima 43 of Silver Spring Maryland a chief cartographer with the US Geological Survey. His wife Fumiyo 33 and two sons Justin 10 and Rolfe 6 were hospitalized with injuries. The other driver James Sullivan 45 of Cleveland was released. passenger Ella Watkins 38 of Cleveland remained with injuries. Sullivan was cited for parking on the highway after pulling off to sleep.

Couple Jailed After Five Mile High Speed Chase

A man and woman were captured after a five mile chase at speeds up to 110 mph in heavy rain. Both were jailed in Medina County with charges including breaking and entering aiding and abetting and carrying a concealed weapon. The man, Eric I Lewis, 32, of Flint Michigan, and Virginia M Cotton, 28, of Pittsburgh, were identified after a rock was thrown at a residence and a loaded revolver found in the car.

Progress Report on EHOVE at Huron County Board Meeting

Ralph Brown county superintendent presented progress on EHOVE recommendations at the Huron County Board of Education meeting. Two Drivers Swerve To Avoid Dogs In County Crashes

Two men, Kim Zahner 19 of Bellevue and James F Mahl 24 of Attica, swerved to miss dogs causing separate crashes. Zahner slid into a ditch on Luis Rd injuring a bruised shoulder, untreated. Mahl hit a bridge railing on Wood Rd, his car rolled, he suffered a cut over the eye and was cited for speeding.

Picnic table on roof sparks youth draft protest in Norwalk

A group of youths at 35 Marian Drive in Norwalk raised an effigy and placed a picnic table on a rooftop to protest voting and drinking age, contending they may face the draft. Neighbors complained of noise. police ordered removal of the table while the youths criticized conformity.
