White House tampering alleged in Watergate tapes and memos
Washington sources charge that the White House altered watergate tapes and a January 8 1970 memo by Alexander Butterfield to mislead on the Clifford articles and the Haig reference. The scattered 64 tapes contain gaps and distortions while Butterfield’s copies show original content. The case continues to puzzle prosecutors as to who altered the records.
