Protesters defied a court order at Kennedy Airport with a four mile car circuit, chanting anti SST slogans as estimates ranged from 500 to 700 vehicles, far below organizers' 4000 planned turnout.
J T Ellington senior assistant postmaster general says the Commission on Postal Service will likely urge abolishing Saturday delivery as an economy measure. If Congress agrees the move could save about 350 million dollars annually, with a national survey showing 79 percent support to cut Saturday deliveries to curb costs.
Faith healer evangelist Jenkins and former gospel singer Linda Peck married in Holy Hill Cathedral Delaware in a Saturday ceremony before about 2,000. John Wilcox, a car restorer, saw his 1940 Lincoln Zephyr wrecked by vandals in a four wheel drive vehicle behind his Norwalk area shop. The car, worth about 1500 dollars, is beyond repair and will be sold for salvage parts. A $100 reward is offered for information leading to arrest.
Trustees recommended to Norwalk city officials and Huron County commissioners that industrial revenue bonds be issued to fund two commercial projects. Michael A. Bilandic a 54 year old corporation lawyer and former alderman from Bridgeport is the odds on favorite to become Chicago mayor after Daley's death. He faces six challengers in the Democratic primary amid machine backing and accusations of weak campaigning. Roman Pucinski a former congressman and Sun Times reporter is among notable challengers.
Springfield Municipal Airport officials say student Michael Styles, 29, of Louisville, took off in a Mooney M-20 F and retracted landing gear before liftoff. The plane skidded 400 feet before control was regained. both Styles and the instructor were uninjured.
