The Ohio Insurance Department was urged to impose a retroactive to Jan. 1 freeze on all medical malpractice insurance premiums. The request came from three Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers led by president Robert F. Thornton of Willard.
UPI reports long term layoffs in the auto sector fell under 200000 this week for the first time in two months but UAW executives remain pessimistic about future callbacks. GM recalled 5300 workers to Buick and Chevrolet truck plants in Flint and Vega plant in Lordstown to man second shifts after mid January cutbacks. Four youths ages 16 to 22 Yo Yoed for over 56 hours, entering the Guinness Book of World Records for longest Yo Yo performance, surpassing a previous British record.
In Mansfield Ohio seven anesthesiologists from the Anesthesiologists Association of Mansfield paused operations for almost a week after a 2 million dollar malpractice policy expired and a renewal was refused.
Col. Frank R. Blackstone of the Ohio Highway Patrol said 2,223 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence in March, the highest monthly total in the division’s history. He noted the legal limit is 10 percent blood alcohol content and drivers at or above are presumed under the influence and may be charged.
